“The purpose of life is not about accomplishments,
life is about experiences”

In the workplace, the number one complaint I hear is, “I do not have enough time.”
Workers seem more pressured these days by time than they do by money. So as a leader of your organization, this holiday season consider giving the gift of time.
Here are my top 10 tips for giving the gift of time this holiday season:
- For the month prior to the holidays, experiment with letting your workers have a highly flexible schedule, including the opportunity to work from home when possible.
- As part of a holiday bonus, give extra days off to your workers around the holidays.
- Give “time off” certificates, to be used anytime next year, to your employees
- Give yourself some extra days off to help out at home with holiday planning (especially if you’re a man and your partner tends to take the lead on planning).
- Try taking total free-time days off for yourself, where you steer clear of work. Do not do email, use social media, text, take phone calls or do any work on these free days.
- Consider organizing a staff volunteering opportunity at a soup kitchen or homeless shelter, which can also be a great team building opportunity.
- Remind yourself that saying “I don’t have time” is not accurate. Time is all we have, so be sure you are prioritizing your time to fulfill the things that are most meaningful to you.
- Spend one-on-one time with each of your children, your parents, and/or siblings.
- Set your timer for 20 minutes, and start working on something that you’ve been putting off for a long time.
- Remember that while it’s never too late, it’s later than you think.
