Like many, I’ve been an enthusiastic reader for as long as I can recall. While books weren’t abundant at home, my parents took me to the Oak Park and Ferndale libraries, sparking my love for reading. I devoured anything in print, even cereal boxes, and especially relished books about baseball, with John R. Tunis being my favorite author. Even today, I favor reading over watching television, just as I did in my younger years.
In my youth, my focus was on collecting autographs from favorite athletes rather than attending book signings or meeting authors. It wasn’t until I authored my own book that I recognized the impact of book signings. In 1994, I was invited to a book signing and fair in Ohio, an event that surpassed my expectations. A large crowd awaited me, and the organizers had arranged a table piled high with my latest book, “Awakening from the Deep Sleep,” given away by the publisher, Harper, San Francisco. Meeting readers and signing their books was exhilarating.
Returning to Ann Arbor, I had the pleasure of signing books at Borders and other local bookstores, even embarking on a nationwide book tour, signing at various stores along the way.
This year, I collaborated with Ari Weinzweig to host a book signing for 15 local authors focusing on leadership and business. The event drew a substantial crowd, fostering not only interactions with readers but also enjoyable connections among authors. While sales exceeded 100 books, the excitement stemmed from autographed copies cherished as holiday gifts for friends and family.
I had hoped to sell copies of my new book, “Men: A Guide to Healthy Aging – 365 Ideas for Staying Strong in Mind, Body, and Spirit.” Unfortunately, the books arrived late, so I offered free e-books and am extending this offer now through Amazon by following this link. Paperback copies are also available for signing at my office. Reviews on Amazon are greatly appreciated, as they amplify the book’s visibility for promotion.
An unforgettable moment at the signing was the authors’ interviews conducted by Dunrie Greiling, recorded by Bill Hall, soon to be accessible on our websites. I invite you to meet these authors and discover their books through this link.
While I can’t arrange signings with esteemed authors like Tolstoy or Garcia Marquez, I’m thrilled to introduce you to local celebrities who’ve crafted compelling and informative works. Crafting a book demands immense inspiration and dedication, often spanning years. Hats off to my fellow authors for their remarkable efforts.
