A few weeks ago at the Leaders Connect Breakfast, I was honored to have Jane Dutton and Monica Worline present on their new book, Awakening Compassion at Work. (The full video of this presentation is available on YouTube at https://youtu.be/W8xtdrZhf2E.)
On their website http://awakeningcompassionatwork.com/100-days-of-awakening-compassion/, the authors present a beautiful plan for implementing the practices for compassionate work at any organization. Here is an introduction to the book from Monica and Jane:
In a world full of pain, we need compassion more than ever. We are proud to launch our new book as part of the effort to awaken more compassion everywhere. This book is the first of its kind to focus on the healing that is born by small moves of compassion that unfold specifically in work and organizations. Our aim is twofold: first to help people understand the power of compassion in the creation of high-performance, highly human workplaces; second to inspire leaders, managers, employees, and change agents to become compassion architects who bring compassion alive in the structure and culture of their organizations.
To help awaken compassion in as many organizations as possible, we are going to share some thoughts and strategies from our book in bite-size pieces over the next 100 days. Join us on the Compassion Architects mailing list and each day you will receive a compassion move that you can try or an idea to share. You can even come back to us with stories of how you are #AwakeningCompassion and nominate other compassion architects. Join us on the Compassion Architects mailing list at http://awakeningcompassionatwork.com/100-days-of-awakening-compassion/.
As part of 100 Days of #AwakeningCompassion, we will explore a new way of seeing and understanding compassion each week. Below are seven to awaken compassion at work…
- Day 1 ~ Insist on the power of compassion as an act of radical possibility.
- Day 2 ~ Break out of the prison of self interest and widen your circles of concern to embrace all.
- Day 3 ~ Trust that the light of compassion helps us find beauty in a fractured world.
- Day 4 ~ Tell tales that illuminate compassion. They help us abide in the darkness more courageously.
- Day 5 ~ Break open the darkness of an error or a regret by lighting a candle of compassion.
- Day 6 ~ Shine the light of compassion on systemic policies and practices that are creating suffering.
- Day 7 ~ Fuel great service and hospitality in your workplace by bringing work routines alight with compassion.
All 100 Days of #AwakeningCompassion is available on their website at http://awakeningcompassionatwork.com/100-days-of-awakening-compassion/.
Monica and Jane talk about their vision and hopes for the book in the launch day video at https://youtu.be/W8xtdrZhf2E.
