UM Professor Elliott Soloway, who joined us at the Leaders Connect breakfast event I host monthly, has a powerful message educators and business leaders. Changes are occurring in how we learn. No longer do we have to rely on memorization. Because we’re always connected, it is easy enough to look up facts online.
We are moving toward a new model of learning that emphasizes the values of inquisitiveness and collaboration. With advances in technology, successful students are those who excel at Solway’s “4 C’s of Education” – critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication.
What are the implications of these insights for today’s professional leaders? An early wave of technology in the workplace was focused on improving efficiency. The current wave is focused on providing platforms for people to collaborate in real-time, google docs for example. Within a few years, Dr. Soloway predicts that every app and every webpage will support synchronous collaboration, which means that multiple people will be able to work together and co-create in real-time.
I am grateful to Elliot for sharing his thoughts on this important concept and I encourage you to learn more about synchronous collaboration at Collabrify.it
Also, that to Roger Rayle, here is a video of Elliot’s presentation:
Thank you,
Dr. Rob
