In May and June, I am proud to participate in a series of joyful and informative events. For 20 years, through the evolution of Leaders Connect, I’ve been able to help create and sponsor over 100 weekly and monthly educational and socially connecting events. In the next 30 days, I will have the pleasure of attending an abundance of events featuring several of my very good friends, including: Mike Samuelson, author of Iconic Ann Arbor; Ari Weinzweig from Zingerman’s, who will be launching his new pamphlet, A Taste of Zingerman’s Food Philosophy; Chris Sing, who will be leading a panel of esteemed women leaders as part of the May Leaders Connect event about How Women Lead; Michael Cole and Mike Dergis, who will be sponsoring Ari Weinzweig at the Leaders Connect Detroit event in June. Additionally, a member of the Leaders Connect Community, Deveaux Gauger will be performing on Saturday night at Ypsi Alehouse. It would be a great time for all of us to get together and share music and refreshments.

Written from Ari, “I would be honored if you choose to come to this event celebrating the release of the new pamphlet “A Taste of Zingerman’s Food Philosophy: Forty Years of Mindful Cooking and Eating.” The marvelous Melissa McKinney (whose already traveled to 20 countries in her first three decades on the planet) will interview me about the new pamphlet, the forty-year-long unfolding of Zingerman’s food philosophy, and, of course, we’ll have plenty of copies of the pamphlet on hand for purchase! A selection of Roadhouse appetizers (including some newly arrived, traditionally-cured Virginia peanuts—only one farmer still does them this way—that I’m particularly excited about) are included with your ticket (plus beer, wine, and cocktails will be available for those who’d like to purchase them). Hope to see you there! Get your ticket to taste here.”

Leaders Connect Detroit Present Ari Weinzweig on
“The Story of Visioning at Zingerman’s”
Wednesday, June 7th, 2023
9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
TechTown (Wayne State University)
440 Burroughs St, Detroit, MI 48202
Ari Weinzweig, co-founder of the Zingerman’s Community of Businesses will be presenting on “The Story of Visioning at Zingerman’s: Four Visions, Forty Years, and a Positive Look Towards the Future” at TechTown from 9:00 am – 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 7th, 2023.
More about Ari’s pamphlet:
Early in the 20th century, Rudolph Steiner—educator, philosopher, and the founder of biodynamics—said, “We tell our story until it tells us.” What follows is just that; it’s me, the co-founding partner of the Zingerman’s Community of Businesses, telling the story of our organization. At the same time, it’s me trying to get out of the way to let our organizational story speak for itself.
If you already know our work with visioning here at Zingerman’s, I hope the new thoughts and learnings included here will add additional insight and understanding to the conversations that have come before it. If, on the other hand, this is your first encounter with the Zingerman’s ecosystem, then I’m hopeful that this pamphlet will serve as a meaningful introduction to the idea of visioning. Some of what you’ll find in the pamphlet are:
- A vision I drafted for this pamphlet.
- A new essay that tells the story of how we came to learn about, and then use, visioning here at Zingerman’s.
- The story of the rollout of our new Zingerman’s 2032 vision—how it happened, why it matters, and more.
- New understandings of what we might well want to include in a vision for a sustainable organization.
